Choosing the Perfect Lash Tweezer

FWith all the different types of tweezers available, it can be pretty overwhelming to figure out which one(s) are for you. Different shapes, widths, materials...how are you ever supposed to choose?

Part of it really is personal preference, so trying some out is the best way to get started. The good news is that once you find the right ones, you'll know. Nevertheless, we want to make that discovery easier by breaking down the different types of tweezers and what they are used for.

Let's start with Isolation and/or Classic Lash Tweezers.

The name Classic is fitting, since these are what we usually start with when we enter the lash world. There are a few different types of isolation tweezers, depending on the client's eye shape and position. For example, clients with deep-set eyes tend to work better with the more curved or angled tweezers to help get over the brow bone. For more rounded or protruding eyes, the straight or pointed tweezers make it easier to isolate from the root. We carry a variety of Straight, Pointed, Curved and Angled types of Isolation Tweezers, which you would also use for ‘picking up’ Classic lashes. Some lash artists prefer the curved type, some prefer the straight. This is just preference and there's no right answer.

We also carry a Slim Line Version of Classic & Isolating Tweezers

These are thinner and lighter weight than the average tweezer created to reduce hand fatigue, making lashing more pleasurable. These are 14 cm in length for extreme comfort. They do the same job but personal preference.

Then we carry on to the fan creations!

Volume tweezers will make or break your ability to create fans with ease or complete utter frustration. The tweezers have to be of excellent quality and close perfectly. Each volume tweezer has its own unique ‘sweet spot’ you will need to find. Always make sure your tweezers are squeaky clean. Even the tiniest speck of glue will inhibit your tweezers from grasping onto the hairs perfectly. We recommend the Glue Be Gone for these little scouring balls rub up against the tweezers removing any signs of glue residue—a MUST-HAVE for lash artists.

There are three categories for volume lashes. We carry a Boot Type, 45 Angle-type or L-shaped type. We have regular thicker tip or fine tips with slightly different angles within these categories. You may like to use a different tweezer depending on the technique you would like to use to create the fans.

These Boots are made for Rocking

The boot-type tweezers get their name because they're shaped like a boot, with a 45-90˚ angle precision tip. Some models have a more triangular-shaped head, which can be a little heavier and bulkier on the tip, making it easier to hold the lashes in place. Some like to use them to “rock” the lashes back and forth to create the fans. Boot line tweezers are also great for the work on the strip technique and for .10 to .05 3-10D volume lashes when using .10 to .05mm lashes.

Your my Angle...

The Angled 45 Type tweezer is quite universal. It can be used for either isolation, picking up classic lashes or creating fans. This can be used to create Volume or Mega volume fans in .03-.05mm lashes. Because of its long curvature angled head, each tweezer is slightly different so you will need to find each ones perfect ‘Sweet Spot’ when creating fans. This is most commonly found between 4-6mm from the tip. They are shorter in length then the regular classic or isolation tweezers so many prefer using these to create fans.

L is for Pre-Made Love..

L-shaped Tweezers have a distinct angle tip between 90-120˚ That looks an L and has much thinner tips. These are favourites of those who use pre-made volume fans or use the pinch method technique. The thin tip allows you to place the L shape across the entire surface area of the pre-made fan so no lashes get left behind. For the pinch method, the tips are this to be able to manipulate the lashes into the perfect size fan (thin or wide) for proper placement. These can be used for volume or mega volume in a .03-.05mm lash or any pre-made.

How to Care for your Tweezers

No matter which tweezers you choose, you must take great care of them. There is NOTHING worse than hearing tweezers hit the hard floor! 80% of the time, the delicate tips will be damaged. It's always in your best interest to have a backup pair of your favs for these circumstances. In addition:

Don't use the tips of your favourite fine tweezers to take the strips of lashes off the tray. Use an old pair.

Lay them down on a flat surface when not in use. Do not lay the tweezers beside the client's head.

Be aware of what you're using to sanitize your tweezers. Some solutions are too harsh and will break down the metal in your tweezers. Read the correct soaking instructions.

Keep them free from the sticky adhesive by cleaning them regularly with the Glue be Gone.

Keep your tweezers in a tweezer stand or case when not in use.
