Oilplaning: Dermaplaning for Sentive or Mature Skin

What is oilplaning?
Similar to dermaplning, oilplaning is a gentle form of mechanical exfoliation. Oilplaning scrapes away dead skin cells and peach fuzz with a sterile scalpel while protecting the skin with a layer of oil. Oilplaning is ideal for anyone with mature, dry, textured, sensitive, or combination skin.

How Oilplaning Works

The oil works to soften the dead skin cells and fine hair prior to the treatment. It also creates a layer of protection between the blade and the skin, making it a great option for those with sensitive, dry, or mature skin. Using the sterile blade, a certified facial specialist is able to perform the manual exfoliation by gently scraping away the top layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair. When done correctly and safely, the procedure will leave the skin feeling smooth, soft, and refreshed.

The Benefits of Oilplaning

The benefits of oilplaning are the same to those of dermaplaning with the added benefit of increased protection on sensitive or textured skin.

  1. Exfoliation

One of the primary and most immediate benefits of dermaplaning is that it provides a deep exfoliation for the skin. By removing the outer layer of dead skin cells and, dermaplaning helps to stimulate cell turnover, resulting in brighter, smoother, and more radiant skin.

  1. Improved Skincare Penetration

Dermaplaning can also help to improve the penetration of your skincare products. After dermaplaning, your skincare products will be able to penetrate more deeply into the skin since the top layer had been removed. This can result in better absorption and more dramatic results. This is also why dermaplaning can be an incredible addition to any facial. When performed before a facial, the products used are more effective thus yielding better results.

  1. Hair Removal

Dermaplaning provides a gentle and effective form of hair removal. By removing vellus hair from the face, dermaplaning can help to create a smoother and more even skin tone. It also allows makeup to glide on more smoothly, resulting in a flawless finish.

  1. Reduced Appearance of Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Dermaplaning can also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. By removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, the skin appears smoother and more youthful.

  1. Safe and Non-Invasive

One of the biggest benefits of dermaplaning is that it is a safe and non-invasive procedure. Unlike other treatments such as chemical peels or laser resurfacing, dermaplaning does not require any downtime and has minimal side effects. It is suitable for all skin types and can be done on a regular basis to maintain healthy, glowing skin.

The Process of an Oilplaning  Treatment

An oilplaning treatment or facial will begin with a gentle cleanse to remove any makeup or impurities on the skin. We recommend using the Eminence Kombucha Microbiome Foaming Cleanser for an effective yet gentle cleanser that will work for all skin types without compromising the moisture barrier.

Step 1: Cleanse the skin!

Step 2: Our first step after cleansing is to apply  a hydrating mist to tone the skin. We recommend using the Soothing Chamomile Tonique for this step.

Step 3: Now, it’s time for oilplaning! Apply some of the Camellia Glow Solid Face Oil on your clients face, take it slow, and carefully use a sterile, medical grade blade for physical exfoliation and hair removal.

Step 4: For further dissolution of dead skin cells and to balance the look of the skin, we recommend using an Eminence peel on your client. Choose a peel that is suited for their skin type or the Calm Skin Chamomile Exfoliating Peel for a gentle option.

Step 5: A hydrating and calming masque is the perfect next step. The Yellow Sweet Clover Anti-Redness Masque from Eminence is great because it will soothe and heal the sensitive skin after the peel while the jojoba oil will replenish nourish and hydrate.

Step 6: Follow the masque with a hydrating serum such as the Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum and a Hydrating Moisturizer to seal everything in. Use a moisturizer that caters to your client’s skin type or choose something universal like Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Hydrator.

Aftercare

The skin will heal quickly after dermaplaning but will remain sensitive for a few days post-procedure. For this reason, you will want to remind your clients not to use any active ingredients or anything that can cause irritation to the skin for the next few days.

Oilplaning is a safe, non-invasive, and effective way to improve the appearance and health of your skin. By removing dead skin cells and vellus hair from the surface of the skin, dermaplaning can help to increase cell turnover, promote deeper product penetration, and create a smoother canvas for makeup application. If you are looking for a non-invasive way to enhance your facials, dermaplaning may be the solution you have been searching for.
