The Ultimate Guide to UV Lash Adhesives: How to Choose the Right UV Lash Glue

Nicole Bembridge

Understanding Our UV/LED Lash Adhesives Crystal Bond, Amethyst Bond & Obsidian Bond – Which One Is Right for You? When artists first switch to a UV/LED lash system, one of the most common questions we hear is: "Which UV lash adhesive should I choose?" The answer isn't that one adhesive is better than another—it's about choosing the adhesive that best matches your lashing style, curing light, and personal preference. Let's break down the differences so you can confidently select the perfect adhesive for your workflow. What Makes UV/LED Lash Adhesives Different? Unlike traditional lash adhesives that rely on humidity and room temperature to cure, UV/LED adhesives cure only when exposed to a compatible UV/LED curing light. This gives you complete control over your curing time. No more rushing because your glue is drying too quickly. No more waiting because humidity is low. You decide exactly when the adhesive cures. The result? More control More consistent retention Less stress during application What Are the Main Differences Between Our UV Adhesives? Although all three adhesives are formulated to provide outstanding retention, there are three primary differences: ✔ Colour ✔ Viscosity (thickness) ✔ Cure characteristics All three adhesives offer: Professional-grade retention of up to 10–12 weeks Approximately 3-month shelf life after opening (when stored properly) Designed exclusively for professional UV/LED lash systems Crystal Bond Clear UV Lash Adhesive Crystal Bond is our clear adhesive and one of the most versatile options in the collection. Best For Artists who use coloured lash extensions Brown lash sets Wet-look sets Artists who prefer seeing the natural lash through the bond The Püre Luma Halo™ UV system Features Clear colour Thin viscosity 1–2 second cure time 10–12 week retention Because there is no dark pigment, light passes through the adhesive extremely efficiently, allowing for fast, consistent curing. Amethyst Bond Purple UV Lash Adhesive Amethyst Bond is quickly becoming a favourite among many lash artists. The subtle purple tint makes it much easier to see how much adhesive you're picking up while still curing quickly. Best For Artists wanting more visibility during application Everyday black lash sets Learning UV systems Artists who prefer visual control Features Purple colour Thin viscosity 1–2 second cure time 10–12 week retention Many artists love Amethyst because it gives them just enough contrast to monitor adhesive placement without affecting the finished lash set. Obsidian Bond Black UV Lash Adhesive Obsidian Bond is our black/grey UV adhesive and is ideal for artists who love the classic look of traditional black lash glue. Features Black/grey colour Thin to medium viscosity Approximately 2-second cure time* 10–12 week retention Because black adhesives contain a higher concentration of pigment, the curing light has slightly more material to penetrate before the adhesive fully polymerizes. For many artists, this simply means allowing an extra second of curing, particularly if using a lower-output UV/LED light. This is completely normal and doesn't affect retention when cured properly. Why Pigment Matters This is something many artists don't realize. The darker the adhesive, the more pigment it contains. Pigment can slightly reduce how quickly light penetrates the adhesive. That means: Clear adhesive → light passes through most easily. Purple adhesive → still cures very quickly. Black adhesive → may require slightly longer curing depending on your lamp and adhesive amount. This is why every artist should spend a little time getting familiar with their curing system. Cure Time Isn't One-Size-Fits-All Although our adhesives are designed to cure in approximately 1–2 seconds, every setup is slightly different. Your curing time can be influenced by: Which UV/LED light you're using The output of your light The distance between the light and the adhesive The amount of adhesive you've picked up The colour of adhesive you're using The goal is always a complete cure—not simply a fast cure. Less Adhesive = Better Results One of the biggest mistakes artists make when switching to UV systems is using too much adhesive. ** More glue does not create better retention. In fact, the opposite is often true. A larger adhesive bead takes longer for the light to penetrate completely, meaning the centre may not fully cure if insufficient curing time is used. Instead, use a small, controlled amount of adhesive and allow the curing light to do the work. You'll achieve: ✔ Cleaner attachment points ✔ Faster curing ✔ Better retention ✔ More beautiful lash sets Choosing the Right Adhesive for Your Lamp In our experience, different curing lights can produce slightly different curing characteristics. For example, we have found that the Püre Luma Halo™ (white LED curing light) may require just a little longer curing time compared to the Püre Luma Aura™ (purple UV curing light), depending on the adhesive being used. Because of this, we often recommend: Püre Luma Halo™ ✔ Crystal Bond ✔ Amethyst Bond These thinner, lighter-coloured adhesives cure beautifully with the Halo system. Püre Luma Aura™ ✔ Crystal Bond ✔ Amethyst Bond ✔ Obsidian Bond The Aura system performs exceptionally well across all three adhesives, including Obsidian Bond. Practice Before You Judge If you're new to UV lash systems, give yourself permission to experiment. Every artist has a slightly different technique. Spend some time practicing: Your adhesive amount Your curing time Your lamp positioning Your working distance After just a few sets, you'll quickly discover what combination works best for your style. Which Adhesive Should You Choose? If you're unsure where to start, here's our recommendation: ✨ Crystal Bond — Perfect if you love a clean, invisible bond or frequently work with coloured lashes. 💜 Amethyst Bond — Great if you like seeing your adhesive during application while maintaining a fast cure. 🖤 Obsidian Bond — Ideal if you prefer the traditional appearance of black adhesive and don't mind allowing a touch more curing time when needed. Final Thoughts There isn't a "best" UV adhesive—only the best one for your technique. The wonderful thing about UV/LED lash systems is that they give you complete control. Once you understand how viscosity, pigment, adhesive amount, and your curing light work together, you'll be able to tailor your system to your workflow and achieve beautiful, consistent results. Whether you choose Crystal Bond, Amethyst Bond, or Obsidian Bond, you're getting the same professional-quality retention and performance. The difference comes down to how you like to lash. Take the time to experiment, refine your technique, and let your tools work with you—not against you. Your perfect UV workflow is just a few lash sets away.
